I bought a power drive with auto pilot and it does a fine job. I do wish I had spent the extra and gotten a Terrova with the I-Pilot. At the time the difference was between $1100 and $1500. When the wind got up when I was trolling cranks this past summer I didn't worry, I had plenty of power. The deploy on the Terrova is easier also, makes a difference as we age. I have 1 798 that I bought used. The #1 feature in my book is the movable cursor to mark a spot that I have already passed and maneuvering back to it. Saves a lot of stumbling around trying to find where the given pile is. It still does more than I know how to make it do.

I bought a Terrova with iPilot slightly used from a board member for my last boat and it has been the single best investment I have made in fishing aside from the boat itself. I would gladly take the versatility and simplicity it offers over side imaging if I could only choose one technology. It allowed me to focus more on fishing instead of fighting the boat with more much control than if I were using a foot controlled TM.

tough choice - i have the terrova with the remote control on a strap and i would give up my depth finder (reluctantly). i would really miss my waypoints but still would go with the tm.

Terrova is great but I would save for the Ulterra. Auto stow and deploy and trim are awesome features. If you can hold out until they hit the market you will find terrova and power drives at discounted prices as some will be looking to upgrade. I will definitely be going to the ulterra with link.

Without a doubt. I put off upgrading my outboard motor so I could get a Terrova I-Pilot and love it. I finally got an HDS7 touch and love it too, but the I-Pilot is king,

What about the Xi5 Motorguide instead of the Terrova I-Pilot?

When I got my I-Pilot, Motorguide had not come out with the X15. I had always used MG foot control motors, but also has some excellent MKs as well. The track record on the MK was too good to ignore. I am sure as the MG becomes more common it will be a good unit as well, I just don't know anything about it.
