I have used braid in the past and would like any of your opinions on crappie seeing the braid and shying from it? I like braid, but have been fishing under the age old assumption that fishing line should be as near invisible as you can get, unless river fishing for catfish. I know in the past i have used flouro leaders, but really feel like that is defeating the purpose of using the braid in the first place. I am just asking for any opinions.

I have not tried it for crappie but might......but, I have used 50# braid for bass fishing for years and the fish do not seem to mind....I have as much success or better catching than the other guy in my boat who is using mono.....

I really don't think Crappie are all that "line shy", at least not unless there are other circumstances making them spooky to start with. I mean, take into consideration that the first fishing line I ever used, and caught fish with ... was black nylon !! And currently I use hi-vis braid when casting Roadrunners & Whirly Bees, as well as casting/jigging plastics ... tied direct to the lure ... and still catch fish.
If you're not all that confident that braid or colored lines do not "spook" fish ... and still want to use braid ... fluorocarbon leaders can be useful. They have less stretch than mono, so they are much closer to braid's "no stretch" quality ... so you're not "defeating the purpose" of braid, as much as you are compromising to gain the visibility (to you) of the braid, while lessening the visibility to the fish.
But, make no mistake about it ... the fish can see ANY line, regardless of color or advertising hype, as long as it's within the range of light penetration. This is even more true in cold water, as the fish's ability to see is greatly increased in cold water. And yet, I've caught fish with hi-vis mono, even while fishing in 40deg water. I've always attributed that to the fish being more interested in what was on the END of the line, than what color the line was.

I have fished yellow or lime green line on all my crappie stuff for years, first monofilament then braid. I still fish monofilament on my two pole rods and braid on my casting and bottom bouncer. I'm tempted to put braid back on my two pole rods and just toss them when the guides wear out.

Josh, what makes your line better than Fireline or Spiderwire?

Man there is lot of difference in the braid. I'm not a guy that likes pumping my products. I just build good gear that fisherman will like. But for one thing I almost got my braid were it will not tip wrap at all. Most Hi-Viz braided line fades very bad. My braid fades also but not as bad. I think every batch we make gets better and better. Also we try keep our products at a better price. Maybe some guys that fish it will get on here and tell their reviews. When building a good braided line its all in the weave, line tension when weaving and Dye. So far we have not had one complaint. We have also not heard of any guides getting torn up. We are very pleased with what we have built and from here its just going to improve. Thanks Josh

I have got a spool of bonehead flow line,it is easy visible fot these eyes,it looks great,will test it out when we get some descent weather,i fish all seasons but now retired so i pick my days. Got some sickel jig hooks,they will be great. I can tell that this line is going to be good,but want to put it on a little less backbone in order to not rip it out of fish.i am and old bass fisherman and still have the habbit of a hard hook set which is not needed with this line,thanks josh

So you do use a lighter hook set than with mono?

Josh I'm sorry that after my first fishing using your braid that I can't post a really detail report. We were fishing in adverse wind condition which made any fishing tough. I can say this though, even in all the wind I had no instances of line problems. No wraps around the tip, no tangles coming of the reel. The line went on the reel straight off the spool with no problem. When running the line between your fingers it feel like braid but not as rough as others. I look at it with a 35X viewer and the line looks mostly round with a weave almost like a mooring line. We were basically dragging baits with the wind and not doing much casting but I liked the line. I hope to get is some real fishing soon to give a better report.

Crappiepapa,every one says that it looks like i am bass fishing,but i always have gave a hard hookset,its not that i am a rookie ,year before last caught nearly 6000 in 5 months with 5 over 17 inches.i just need to train my to not reflex as hard with braid and if the rod is a little more forgiving when fish is near boat he will not tear as easy,but why am i telling you for don g has already told me how good you can fish so i know you already know
