    Now ...... I'm mixed up! I caught this big crappie tonight with my fly rod in 3' of water. Same lake, I like to mix it up and 'gill fish with my UL flyrod to change things up a bit.

    This crappie hit a size 14 bead head nymph as soon as it hit the water!

    No need for confusion ... Crappie are low light feeders, and will take minnows & bugs from the surface when conditions warrant. I do believe, also, that Black Crappie are more inclined towards this behavior.

    I usually catch all my crappie on white or gray. Just like your avatar, I use a lot of jigs and beadhead flies in minnow imitations. White and Smoke (gray) seem to look more like a minnow.
