    I like bait casters, but it really doesn't matter. Whatever you have lying around will work.

    I've tried just about everything available. I settled on a regular sized, but cheap, bait casting reel. I place the rig in the rod holders with the reel down. It makes it easy for me to pull out additional line when needed. I have a one-foot mark on my rod in front of the reel so I get a pretty accurate reading as to depth. But, that's just me, there's no "one" correct way.
