I'm pretty sure that they are concerned with the spread of zebra mussels. I throw my crappie into the livewell until I have about 6 then I transfer them to the ice chest as I then have at least enough for a mess Also, I can rest before going down to clean fish.

Livewell till I get home and then into a bag and in the garage fridge overnight as a prep for filleting the next day. Don't get concerned about hot weather as I won't keep them after the water gets above bout 70 or so. GET IN MY BELLY

Mine always go in the live well. When I get to the ramp, I transfer to the ice chest. I have to let mine sit on ice overnight. They are much easier to clean. JMO
    I agree. That's what I do.

Off the hook & into basket, basket into cooler for transport, cooler onto fillet table,
fillet table into freezer bag & into freezer until ready for meal & fryin' pan. Eat 'em as
    fresh as you can. Enjoy!

Straight to the cooler on ice, don't use my live well, plus it's in the back.
