While I do apologize for highjacking this thread .... it is within the same subject content. I just question the actual sizes of some of these hooks being suggested/mentioned. I mean REALLY ...1/0 ?? 2/0 ?? 3/0 ?? When I Bass fished, I never used a hook over a 1/0 size ... and that was for 7" worms & 4" craws (& on mono line that was never below 12lb test).
Exactly what size minners or plastics are these hooks being used on !!! There's a big difference in a #1 & #2 hook vs a 1/0 & 2/0 size hook. Are we talking the same style hooks (Aberdeens) or is there a significant size discrepancy in the different styles, such that a 2/0 in a particular style of hook is equal to or similar in size to a #2 Aberdeen ??

#2 on 1/32nds and 1/16ths. Plain hooks baiting with minnows...#2's.
Mainly #4 on 1/16 unless i'm using a big bait then i'll go to a #2,3/32 #2,1/8 usually #2 unless i'm in Mississippi then it's #1 or 1/0,1/4 #1 or 1/0.

#2 and #4 according to the jig body size.
You do not cease to fish because you get old, You get old because you cease to fish
I use 1/8 oz leadhead on big tubes with #2 hooks.

I have site member Grousefly make my jigheads ... 1/16oz & 1/32oz ... and most have #2 Aberdeen hooks (some few with #4's). They are ALL weedless jigheads, either with the "brush" style or Y-guard style weedguards. I've caught Crappie up to 2.5lbs, stick most all of them in the roof of the mouth, and haven't lost the first fish from any fault of the jighead or hook. (& I'm using 4lb test mono & lite action rods)
The only reason I went to a #2 hook, was for using larger bodied plastics ... as I was not having any problems with catching OR losing fish with the smaller #4 hooks.
Grousefly can custom make you pretty much any kind of jighead/hook size that you'd really want. Thumbs Up
NOW > IMHO ... if you know you're getting hits, but think you're missing fish because they're spitting the jig out .... I'm thinkin maybe you ain't setting the hook fast enough or hard enough. Even if you use the monster size hooks that some of these fellers are suggesting.... and you don't set the hook with the appropriate speed/power .... you haven't gained a thing.
