    Prayer Request God Provided Today

Ran over to Grand Bayou this morning. Wasn't quite there by daylight, but was fishing by 7:30. 30 degrees air temp, 46.3 degrees water temp. Bright and sunny day. Just a slight breeze as I started fishing, but picked up to probably 5-10 before too long.

One thing I have figured out about crappie fishing is this; it is quite similar to deer hunting. Back when I used to deer hunt, I usually had at least 2 stand sites to choose from to give me options depending upon the weather and wind. If I went to one stand, the deer usually showed up at the other. The same is true, I believe, about crappie fishing. If I go to one lake, the fish are usually biting on the one I should have gone to. Oh well, that is why we call it fishing and not catching.

I marked a ton of fish in 25-30 feet of water, and I do mean a ton. Only problem was, they wouldn't cooperate. I fished with shiners on 2 poles, 2 hooks per pole. I fished jigs on three poles, 2 jigs on 2 poles, 1 jig on the other pole. I probably tried 10-12 different colors of jigs; hair and plastic. I also tried every depth imaginable, from 14 feet deep to right on bottom. I even smeared Slab Sauce all over the jigs and used crappie niblets on top of that. I managed to catch 2 crappie and threw one of them back because he was just too little to keep.

However, thanks to a couple of "Good Samaritans," that God sent my way, I came home with enough fish to feed me and Diane tonight. Duckcommando and Juicy were fishing close enough that we could see each other about the last couple of hours I fished. They gave me four fish they had caught. I actually threw one of them away after getting them home. When I started cleaning it, something was wrong. He looked like an average fish, but was poor looking. I don't know what was wrong with it, but something wasn't quite right. We had enough without it anyway.

Thanks to the good Lord and Justin and Josh, I had fresh feeeeesh (as Jig Rig would say) for supper tonight. Thanks guys. It is people like the two of you that makes crappie.com the family friendly fishing site that it is.
The Lord is good. His mercy and love endures forever.

Even old pros like you have a bad day occasionally. It was a beautiful day to be out.

It was slow on Caney today. I managed to catch 13, which was kind of on par for most of the people I talked to. Everyone said they killed them yesterday. Just my luck. Oh well, we had enough for supper, so I shouldn't complain!

Lot of people like that around here in Okieland. Today, some friends at the dock gave me seven nice crappie because I only had two keepers (and about 25 dinks that I threw back). Right after they left, I got eight big ones, up to 13 inches. There's a preacher here who never seems to be able to catch'em, but he always goes home with plenty of fish to feed the family.

Good to see you again Pastor. Tough day for sure. Beats a day at work though.
