Alfalfa bales are heavy when dry, especially when fresh. I know, deal with them often. The feed store where I get mine used to have it in a "three wire bale" as they called it. Folks couldn't deal with it, so they went to a "two wire bale" which is still heavy. Off loaded some today. I've done it at Toledo Bend. And yes they are heavy! And YES it does work, especially if you can give it a week before coming back to it. It has been years since I did mine but I think I used cinder blocks and Christmas trees in 5 gallon buckets with quickcrete in them to sink it.
