Louisiana rains don't matter as much as rain north of here. We could go thru a drought while IL to Arkansas get daily rain and the river would rise. If it's the other way around I don't think we would see much of a rise, if any. Since the 30 day forecast is inaccurate, I always look at the northern state levels and 5 day forecasts to figure out if the river will start dropping soon. Starting to look like we won't be able to fish Old River til mid July at least.

The latest 28 day forecast from the National Weather Service, Slidell.
I was told that Old River fishing is best when the level at the Red River Landing gauge falls below 35'.
It appears (projecting the forecast) that this will occur around July 6th. This might be good for a July 4 outing.

I just found out that NOAA is predicting the level at the RR Landing to be 35 on 6/30.

Maybe the Friday after July 4th but fishing on the 4th would be a nightmare with all the boat traffic. I'm hoping to be there for 4th of July but only to bring my kids boat riding and watch the firework show. I've never had luck fishing on the 4th. 3/4 of the river will be muddy. Ballpark would be about the only place to fish and it will be crowded.

Looks like this will have to be pushed back again........

Updated forecast shows the MS River at BR dropping below 30 ft on 6/23. 6/30 might be the best option right now if the forecast doesn't change much. Every gauge north of here is showing a fall. I wouldn't bet money on it but looks like we should be able to do it by the end of the month.

Yeah.....kinda risky.....may be best to wait til Friday after July 4th.....what y'all think fellas?
