Was that Common Salvinia or Giant Salvinia?

The main problem is the roots that can be 3' long that are like hair and get caught in the water passages in the motor. You can have a good stream of water and there will be no cooling in parts of the motor and your alarm won't sound. If you run in it and make it home FLUSH AND FLUSH your motor. most motors have a place to flush. If not put your cups and turn the pressure up and flush good. you don't want that stuff to dry inside your motor. The day this happened there was a DWLF spray boat tied up at the landing. NOT SPRAING.
LET UM GO TO GROW
Black Lake near Campti is infested with this kind of salvania, not sure if it's giant or common
I'm not sure which one it is but it shifts with the wind and if you go in one way when you try to come back the same way if the wind changes you may be forced to go through it like speckle had to. I don't know what ldwf plans to do but last winter they sprayed with several airboats a lot and I never saw a difference. This year I've only seen them a couple of times???

We have the "common" down in the Mermentau country and it doesn't seem to be too bad for navigation even when it's bank to bank. Supposedly the "giant" can block a crew boat when it's bad. Here is a good article on the "giant" pest.
Even better for North Louisiana.
Thanks for the articles mermentau, I've heard they've introduced the weevils into Black Lake but that's only the rumor, I don't know for sure. I do know firsthand from watching them spray all last winter that spraying did no good at all, it's way worse this year! We thought the March flooding would have flushed it out, but that didn't help either. One thing that everybody south of the Red River should worry about is that earlier in the year when they were trying to get rid of the "Green Monster" that has Lake Bistineau (a little north of us) matted up also, they tried flushing it out through Loggy Bayou. Anytime you would cross over Grand Ecore bridge (hwy 6 over Red River) right in the center of the river there were huge long strings of salvania, miles long! That went on for months. It started collecting right up from the bridge but when the water came up it all flowed south. Now, everybody knows that it didn't die in the Red, it's all just collecting and growing more massive farther down the river. I've read that salt water will kill it dead but it is becoming resistant to and beginning to thrive in brackish water. In my opinion, it's going to take more than weevils to get rid of this stuff. It reproduces faster than the beetles do. I don't know what they can do that they haven't tried.![]()

It's definitely giant salvania
*Notice the "eggbeaters"
*This should all be clear water as far as you can see
*This is the main channel about 2 miles south of the Stretch completely blocked
