My small town is getting a big van load of donated animal supplies food etc. to send down. Never really thought about it but they say it's a huge need right now.

I can't take the boat right now, but my daughter's troop is collecting items to deliver directly to one of the leaders cousins that lives in the area and will be distributing directly to those in need. We're heading down Saturday morning, hopefully with a packed van. I know S'port/Bossier had its share of flooding earlier this year and it's a long tough recovery for folks. Hopefully this won't fall to the wayside, but immediate needs are most important now. Feels good to be able to help in some way. So many people offer prayers...which is fantastic...but material items are essential too. I'm proud of our state and the way it has pulled together to support the affected. Hat's off to the Cajun Navy!!

It is what it is!
Abu65, thank you and your town for doing this for the people and animals in distress.

Did anyone see the Hannity show last night. He showed up close and in your face what has happened to those poor folks. The news shows didn't come close to showing the ground level scenes of the suffering these people are going through and yet through it all there was no complaining about where's the help. People are helping their own and volunteers from across the country are pitching in. God Bless America.

I didn't see the show, but Tammy's cousin and his family were hit hard and I went to his house. It was bad, with almost everything they owned thrown out in the yard. He said they saved a small stack of pictures, but lost so much. They woke up to water in the house overnight. Both his son and daughter completely lost their mobile homes when they were washed away but everyone was safe. And I spoke to a family friend who saw cemetery vaults moved around in the flooding. Sunday, we drove by the small cemetery and saw one pushing a fence over, another on it's side, and some stacked up together where they looked to have floated into large headstones. We didn't go into those fancy neighborhoods we saw on the t.v., but saw plenty of personal loss. And her cousin was in good spirits, even through the distruction.
PPG, I did see the Hannity show last night and was shocked at the destruction. Glad to hear the shout out for the cajun navy. It's a miracle that there wasn't more loss of life. Hopefully our elected officials will listen to the young lady who begged for no politics, no red tape, just send help.
That was where my SIL and 2 of his buddies launched. Then went about 4 miles east across the Amite river to Bass Pro, then south about 4 miles. They then helped a bunch of people after locating my daughter, other SIL and 2 grandboys. Then they brought them home along with a couple with a 2 month old, who we did not know. They were able to call someone when they got to our side and his brother came and picked them up. That was Sunday. My SIL and his buds went back out Monday and did it again. I have one friend who lives in BR and went to retrieve his son, DIL and their toddler and baby in Walker on Sunday. From BR he ended up going south to LaPlace up I55 to Amite then down to Walker using any road he could find open. He found them at a shelter and brought them home. It took him 12 hours and he drove 350 miles to go where it would have been about 30 miles round trip. Now I see a state rep is writing a regulation to make people go to school and be registered to help rescue people. TOO much govt.
