my unqualified opinions:

Colors are subjective to mimic the fish's natural food based on water conditions. So if the water is murky/dark then brighter colors, water is more clear then darker colors. My guess is that fish don't see colors as much as shades. If you look at different colored baits as grey scale you'll see what I mean. Open a color picture of baits and I believe many picture viewers have the ability to either view as black/white (grayscale) or save as black/white..then re-open.

I could be mistaken, but, based on my reading the logic fits.
