Saw it this morning at Lowes. This Carencro fella builds them himself for fun. This is a wooden boat so has natural buoyancy, 10' long, 4' bottom. Brand new electric start, four stroke Honda, turns 3800 rpm. Seats two people. Weighs 150 pounds total. First thing I asked was it top heavy - no. He had a video of himself and his wife standing up in it rocking back and forth as hard as they could (he's 280 pounds). Also in the video, he's running in 1" of water, and on the ground with wet grass. He wants what he put into it, $2,000. Only because he likes building them:
He says he mounts a trolling motor in front and fishes out of them. He has a 8' one seat he is keeping for himself. That right there is slick as can be. Wish I hadn't had seen that.

Every day is a holiday and every meal is a picnic.
That is what I need to run some of the marshes I fish! To bad they won't allow air boats in there!

Huummm. I'm getting ready to retire and this looks to be right down my alley. I've been looking hard at the Shallow Water Spyders built in Franklin(The Spider Is Here), but they're a little high priced. They're worth it but still to much for my budget. Do you have any contact info for this guy? IM me please.
I sure could use that !
Remember he said it's a wooden boat. I don't think a wooden hull would take to jumping stumps or cypress knees.

Being from the area of our beautiful state that lies north of Alexandria, I am not "in the know" about airboats in south Louisiana. So, let me ask a dumb question? What is the reasoning behind banning airboats from certain areas? I had no idea that the Wildlife and Fisheries could make that call. Oh well, there is a lot of stuff I do not know about. 58 years old and still learning!!!!!
The Lord is good. His mercy and love endures forever.
Thought about that as well. The whole power assembly (motor, cage, etc.) is mounted on rails on the bottom. Weighs 75 lbs. It could be easily be transferred to an aluminum boat. This fella is a master craftsman, I can tell just by talking to him. His header design was superb, as well as the intake system, aircraft cabling, etc. I really enjoyed talking to him. I figured the power assembly and trailer alone is worth the money.

Pastor it not the state that makes the rules about the airboats. It the private corporation that own the land. They allow you to fish, most times for a fee, but control the size motor or type of boat you can use. On public waters you're good to use what you want. There might be some public waters that are controlled too.
