Made my first ever trip to Old River today. Very beautiful place but lots of buzzards eating dead fish. I was told the fish die when they drop the lake so fast that it pulls most of the oxygen rich water out of the lake. Maxwell328 must have caught most of the crappie last week because I managed to bring home only four. One of them should have been thrown back, but he swallowed the hook. Had a close call with a big stump out in the channel. Thank You, Lord for having me slow down just before I got there. Water is very low, only 1.7 feet in one stretch about 75-80 yards. Other places range from 4.5 to 8 feet. Gar were everywhere along with the Asian carp. Had one 7-8 pounder jump in the boat with me. Man, if one of those things would ever hit you in the head it would be very bad. I even tried pulling a couple of cranks for a while. Nothing on the cranks either.
I talked to three other fishermen. Two of them have been tearing them up for the past three weeks. One of them had one by 10:30, the other fellow had 2. The other boat had caught 8 small fish, no keepers.
There is a bright side to this story. I got to watch the Lord Jesus wake up His creation again. I got to see a very beautiful sunrise. I had a very good cup of coffee and a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. I got to go fish a place I have never been to before. And I arrived home safe and sound. Thank You, God, for another wonderful day in Your world.
That sure sounds like a good day to me!

Pastor.....sometimes we forget that fish is not really all we are after. Sounds like you had a great day.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Thanks for that report. Nice to be reminded that catching fish means so little compared to enjoying what God gives us. Thanks Pastor.
well....I guesssssss.....good report Pastor....next time bring Ranger with you.....
Thanks for the report Pastor. A day late and a dollar short.......
Pastor. Glad you got to see a glorious sunrise. Our day dawned kind of cloudy. It was still a beautiful day to be on the water. Especially with my best fishing partner. I missed that 26 years she didn't fish with me.

Pastor I too encountered the jumping carp! Me and my wife went to Henderson (north pelba) and had one scare us half to death! I was heading out of a shallow cove and heard a huge splash right out of my perifferal vision. Thought my wife fell overboard! Lol! Turned to look and it jumped three more times before we got further away. Later that evening had another one jump in the south flats just off the blvd. I can see where it wouldn't be nice to get caught in a big group of em!
Sounds like you had a great trip; it's not all about how many you catch.
