The 2nd best crappie lake in the US and you want to change something up? If it aint broke don't fix it, you may regret it later
Crappie are VERY PROLIFIC breeders and if you DON'T have scientific PROOF that the limits should be changed I would leave them alone and let the wildlife and fisheries handle it. Not saying you don't know what you are talking about but I know on my home lake of Calcasieu (Big Lake to the locals) (Salt water) that the guides pressured the wildlife and fisheries into changing the limits on speckled trout to 25 instead of 50, even after the wildlife and fisheries told them that the lake could DEFINITELY handle the pressure. Now we have 1 lake that has a limit of 25 and all the surrounding lakes and waterways around Big lake still have a limit of 50. Doesn't make much since to me. If your lake has handled the pressure for all the years before and it is the 2nd best lake in the U.S., why would you want to change it? As PointMan3 says, if it aint broke, don't fix it. You may end up opening a can of worms that you can't close.

Due to the word getting out about how good this lake is four or five years ago due to attention from Major crappie tournaments.....the pressure on this lake has been unreal.....and yes the fisherman can see the decline has already started. They changed the crappie regs on the famous big four in MS years ago and recently changed them again and it has proven to help.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

We know we have a Great Lake. We are wanting to stay in front of the ball instead of behind it. I've fished this lake for 10 years so I've got a good understanding on the population of the lake. It's declined over the last three years!! This past spring I counted 77 boats within a mile of me. To kinda give you an idea on the pressure it gets.

I have seen that many boats packed in one cove on the lake I fish. And you can bet that 95% of those folks heard a report and probably only caught a cold that day. Believe me, I used to live on another lake in north Louisiana that was phenomenal for fishing and they went against biologists recommendations on how many grass carp to stock. They listened to the people and not the biologists. Bye bye trophy bass lake. Just saying that because a few people aren't catching fish doesn't mean anything. White perch need to be thinned out. You can't hardly find anyone to put white crappie in a pond, because they are so prolific. Just be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. Seen it happen once and another lake called D'arbonne is gonna be up next I fear. Public are pushing for more restrictions on it.
