So how do they keep a "non-competitor" from dropping anchor? Just wondering.

You right. If it's allowed, 99% of the the circuit fishermen have shiners in their boat. Hard to compete without em.

We started the tourney with shiners in the boat like we always do (if you don't have 'em it will surely turn into a minnow-only bite in a hurry, lol) and were using double rigs but by 11:00 we figured out they were not giving us an advantage and in that case shiners to us are certainly not worth the effort and time it takes to use them. We never buy them anyway unless fishing a tournament when we feel they may sometimes give us a very very slight advantage with the big gals over strictly artificial. We used chartreuse 1/16 Road Runners with char/pink BG Stroll'r's tipped with a nibble single rigged with a 1/2 oz Bullshot weight ten inches above the runner. We were trolling in stumps 1-2 feet off the bottom in 12-14 ft water .5 to .7 mph and had around 25 hangup/breakoffs. Most of the hits were very light......We caught 80% of our fish after 11:00 with peak bite around noon and fished the whole time in a 200 yd stretch. BTW, the fish we did catch early on shiners were hitting them on a pink minner critter. The day before they were 5-6 ft deep in 10-12 ft water but had moved by Sat morning.
