A couple of weeks ago the bite was better than it is now. Then the area around the dam was packed with boats. Yesterday I was one of three boats on the lake.
I think draining it has really helped the health of the lake...that combined with active management from LADWF.

Growing up in Benton we used to go up to Ivan all the time in the back of Daddy's work truck. In about 1970 they were draining it and you could catch all the Jackfish you wanted using a Lucky 13. Man that was fun! How are the stumps now? Back then the lake was full of stumps, you would hit a stump and Bream would jump everywhere. John

The eastern half of the lake ( the half nearest the dam ) is relatively free of stumps. Everywhere else there are a lot of stumps just below the waterline. The boat lanes there are well marked, though. I can't compare it to how it was in 1970 because I never fished it back then.

I really liked the Photos and Diagrams of the Lake Bed. Then again the Funnies are my Favorite part of the papers these days. It kinda beared out the facts about the Jackfish and rough fish back in my times there. My son and I went to Lake O Pines to try out my new Terrova Trolling Motor linked to the HB 1199si. WOW! Caught some really nice crappies and a couple of monsters. John
