Happens more often than you would think. I was fishing the marsh with a couple of buddies YEARS ago when we were running through a very tight trail when the reeds that were hanging over the trail caught one of the buddies rod and flipped it out of the boat! Out of the 3 of us, I was the only one that saw it flip out of the boat so I told them to stop and we were able to get the rod.
I have a family member that caught a live bird while fishing with my dad. As for me, I caught a small alligator on a fishing trip in south Louisiana. We stopped by some brackish canals along the road before we got to where we were gonna put the boat in. My dad was throwing his cast net getting some mullet for bait and I decided to bait up with a shrimp and a cork and throw it out in the canal. Caught a ladyfish(at least that's what dad said it was) and so I baited back up and threw back out. Gator grabbed my bright orange cork and I started reeling in thinking he would let go but instead he death rolled and wrapped all up in the line. He was only about 4.5-5 foot long and skinny so we easily pulled him in. Had 12 lb braid on and when we got him to the bank we noticed he had a metal tag near his toes from LDWF. On other trips we always stopped at the canals to castnet mullet and have had several other gators swim towards my cork, so for some reason they love bright orange lol
Never caught a rod or reel off the bottom but I do know where 2 nice anchors are in cane river. I had a boat that sat up a long time and the anchor rope was rotten but we didn't realize it. Lost first anchor and then moved further down and lost the other anchor 30 minutes later. I was mad but mostly at myself for letting the boat sit up for a couple years and using cheap rope. Lesson learned! I do have hopes of one day getting those anchors back. I thought about buying one of those 250 lb retrieving magnets from harbor freight for $16 and tying a rope on it and lowering it over the side of the boat in hopes of it attaching to the anchor and pulling it up to the boat. one anchor was a 15lb river anchor and the other was a 25lb river anchor. I know within 10 feet where both of them are but they been down there for a couple years now and probably covered in mud. Not sure if the magnet would actually be able to pull them up so that's why I continue to hesitate on buying one and trying.
Ain't never caught a rod and reel, but I did catch this on D'bone last march

was bass fishing one morning with a white spinnerbait......an owl flew down, jumped in the water trying to get my bait with its feet.....I let the bait fall to the bottom so he would not get it but still felt his feet touching the line.....it was shallow water.....Didi took this picture as he was in the water.....we played around with him for 20 minutes.....

I like that Bruce - thanks!
I don't have a picture of it, but I actually caught a crappie several years ago. That is a strange thing for me to catch. LOL.
