    Hey guy! Looking at the picture it looks like it's the gear in the head unit. I had the same problem on mine. I replaced it with a new one. Had no problems for a year. The following year first outing the broken part worked it's way down the shaft and got lodged in the armature and made a scraping metal to metal sound. Ended up having to take the lower motor part off to dislodge the metal. Just a heads up. If you have time, you want to take that trolling motor off and turn it upside down to make sure there are no loose broken gear parts so they don't gravitate to the bottom. Tearing that motor apart is no fun job if you don't have the right tools!
