Can someone with the expertise on the Mississippi river flow answer questions I have. With all the snow we had in the northern sections of the Mississippi river, why didn't we get the rise in the basin similar to 2011? Why is it on the rise now? I think politics control the Old River structure. Am I wrong?

Water from the Mississippi is normally diverted into the Atchafalaya Basin only at Old River, where floodgates are routinely used to redirect the Mississippi's flow into the Atchafalaya River such that the volume of the two rivers is split 70%/30%, respectively, as measured at the latitude of Red River Landing. This flow split was not based on science, but rather was based on the approximate flow allocation between the two rivers that existed at the time of construction

The MS River is on a rise as the chart show. Looks like a fall coming in a week.

By federal law, except in emergencies, 33% of the combined flow of the Red and Mississippi Rivers is allowed to flow down the Atchafalaya River.

OK, I knew that. But why didn't we get a rise similar to 2011 with all the snowfall we had last year. To me it doesn't add up.

The level at the Butte La Rose gauge was 14.2 feet in April (the spring thaw), low but not a record. One foot of snow produces one inch of water, so the rain or lack thereof has the greater effect on the river.

2011 had a lot of rainfall which sped the snow melt. Producing a lot of water fast. I think so anyway if memory serves me right

Global warming is a joke and a fraud and they know it, even Al Gore. Now it's call "climate change" because you cannot dispute climate change. If the summer is hotter, it's climate change. If the winter is colder its climate change. If the river is higher or lower it climate change. Every situation can be attributed to climate change, so hurry up and send them more money to line their pockets, that's what it is all about.
