Big lake or prien lake out of lake charles I have fished it with my 16ft

2 launches down at rockefeller, also cypremort point.

Also behind the island at Grand Isle. Trout bite in the intercoastal canal off big lake near Lake Charles. There is a launch south of Sulphur. Easy drive from Lafayette.

I agree with Danny and Saute86 with big lake out of Lake Charles, huge trout there.

Yes and if its too windy you can fish protected waters in the ship channel, moss lake, haymark, and prien lake.

Intracoastal City is less than 45 minutes from Lafayette. Fearman Lake is a good place to start. You have to cross about 2 miles of open water but I do it in a 15' boat all the time. Redfish have been on since May there. Popping cork with a live finger mullet or cocahoe minnow about 18" deep and just beat the banks for redfish and flounder. If you have to, use dead shrimp but you will keep the catfish away with the live stuff. If you just want to catch fish, anchor at the mouth of Fearman Lake (cutoff bayou) and put some shrimp on the bottom, you will catch a bunch of catfish (even some blue cats) and croakers (good to eat) but maybe hook into some black drum and redfish. Can also do this by putting in at the Avery Canal and head towards Weeks Bay. Anchor at the mouth and catch all types of fish. The trout will get in Weeks Bay thick in September and October. Cypremort Pt is awesome in the fall for trout but you can walk across the boats and you may lose your patience with rude folks on that side, same with Weeks Bay.

I use braided line and a 25# fluorocarbon leader for the redfish.

Rockefeller is one of my favorite places to go. We go and catch crabs and shrimp at the weirs and then drop them off at the truck and catch redfish. At certain times you can catch your limit of shrimp in 4 casts of the castnet. Good times but its 1.5 hours from Lafayette, going tomorrow.

Grand Isle is fun too, was there last week and you don't even need a boat, just wade around Elmer's

So close to saltwater here in lafayette I rarely fish for white perch anymore unless I head back up north

sometimes you can not catch a thing for hours and then the tide starts moving and its every cast

I would like to launch there and explore, but those canals look like you can be lost in a hurry. Are the weirs easy to get to?
