    Default Calcasieu River 7/5

Made a quick afternoon trip to the Calcasieu yesterday. I kept 7 sacs. Threw back a bunch of undersized fish. I couldn't land the big ones I hooked up on they wrapped me every time up in the lay down. All caught on shiners. Couldn't get them to touch a jig. The water was stained and moving due to the rains to the north earlier in the week. With all the yahoos I couldn't fish the main river. I had 2 cigarette boats pass me while fishing doing around 60mph about 20 yards from me. i decided to fish the logging canals. It sure was nice fishing in the shade. Sorry no fish pics but here is one of the tops I fished. It was full of small sacs.Name: 20140705_140135_resized.jpg

Sure is. That's why I have a hard time making myself go to Henderson in the hot times.

Pretty place, reminds me of the lower White River in Arkansas.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

That laydown in the shade is nice, always a good idea to tote shiners along. Bet there were some fat bream there as well. I would have teased them there with some crickets just for fun.

There are 4 canals like that to fish. The river was rising and there was a current going into the canal. I hope thursday and friday the river starts falling. It should be good. I caught a few goggle eyes. I missed a huge one. I have caught bream against the banks in that canal. Next time I will bring some worms and see what happens. I wish some one in the Lake Charles area still sold crickets.

Surely there are crickets over there in Lake Charles somewhere. I figured the bream were in there. Thanks for posting, enjoyed it.
