    Default Houston River 5/17

Went back this morning. Couldn't get any of my boys to go so I went alone. I picked up 44 sacs and 7 bass. They were all around 8in perfect size for frying whole. I need to learn to count. Its not easy counting in a live well. I should of had limits on both. I left them biting. Fish were caught on shiners and chartreuse jig. 1 ft deep with a natural cork that looks like a cypress nut. I caught off laydowns that were in the shade. I covered a lot of river today.

The park is on what we call the West Fork and the Houston River empties into the West Fork. It runs east and west north of Sulphur. Average depth is 20 to 25 ft. It is winding and narrow. Before this year it was almost un navigable. FEMA took out all of the laydowns. I use to fish and never see another boat. Today I saw about 20. One good thing is they all idled by. By the way I had a few full of eggs today.

Oh wow, that's interesting. I thought for sure the spawn was over. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Thanks it felt good to get out and put a few in the freezer. I haven't been on the water since Easter. I have been busy with the end of the semester and finals.
