Hey Fellas, I was curious to know the easiest way to Lake Warner from the basin landing by Doucet's . I have been told to look for a canal with a camp on the corner with a satellite dish ??? Not very specific so I was looking for a little more detail if you boys can help....thanks in advance! Looking to get in there once the river starts to fall some.
It will be the 3rd cut to your left from the landing!!
Yea you right, but it's there! Hate to say 2 and they take buttelarose cutoff lol
From "F Troop": "go down 'til you see a rock that looks like bear, take right. Keep going 'til you see a bear that looks like rock, go left".
Warner reminds me.. .. about 25+ years ago I was fooling around in the off season changing boats. I had a big welded store bought 16 ft alum johnboat. I took off the 50merc and dropped bro-in-law's old 80merc on, tied everything up, (still running old cable steering system and homemade steering console), went to Butte and took off down the river. That thing was crazy scary fast, light boat with way over HP rating.
I turned into the Warner canal for a scout trip. River was rising fast, and water was pouring up that canal. When I arrived at the lake I saw the lake level was about 16+ inches lower than the canal, and there was a small waterfall. At that point I couldn't stop, and just dropped over like a duckling out the nest.
Oh crap now what. Before cellphones and mud motors. I looked that over many times, circled around about 100 times, deep breath, got on step, then just goosed it, and don't you know I popped up over that waterfall slick as you please, couldn't believe it. One of those thing you never would try otherwise. LOL. Rode up that current on step, felt like 10mph land speed.
Every time I hear Warner mentioned I think about that and laugh ! That sure would have been a long walk back to the river to flag someone down.
A week later I took that rig to the Atch Delta on a teal hunt, and the motor seized up on return trip through the marsh. Thank God another boater towed me back to Berwick. Experiment done, back with the 50merc! haha
