Weather finally cooperated for me on my days off. Actually go to go 3 times. Friday, Saturday and Monday. Friday Bonnie and I went and put in at Jakes. Right in the middle of the circus. We got there at 1 pm and left at 4 with 19. Sorry I didn't get a picture of those fish. Most were decent but nothing huge. I did take a couple of pictures of the boats, but I am not sure how big a picture from a cell phone will post here, but I will give it a try.
Saturday morning I got to the lake at daylight, but I didn't try to fight the crowd at Jakes. I put in at the spillway. When I backed the boat in I forgot to undo the winch strap so I pulled up and when I walked back to unhook the strap my cell phone fell off and splash right in the lake. I jerked it up and used a towel to dry it off and luckily it still works fine. Started out foggy and cold and they weren't biting too well for me. I was catching a few and my buddy and his son fishing 30 feet away were catching better than I was. We were catching them about 22 feet deep in 30+ feet of water. Around lunch time Bonnie called and said she was coming up and to meet her at Jakes. I was fishing the lower end of the lake toward the dam. It took me forever to get to Jakes having to idle through all the boats. She actually drove from West Monroe and beat me to the ramp. We caught some after she got there, but they weren't eating it up. All the people we talked to were having about the same luck as we were. All the ones I kept for myself were good fish. The best two were 1 lb 15 oz and 2 lb even. We kept 12 whole fryers for a neighbor. They are the ones in the ice chest on the right side of the picture.
The 2 biggest from Saturday.
The 2 lber
Went again Monday by myself. Got there around 10 am and fished for several hours without a bite. Finally went up and fished the channel between Bear Creek and Terrell Island boat runs. Managed to catch a few on orange tube jig with red glitter. I finally figured out that I had to fish 20 ft. deep and had to keep the boat moving steadily to keep a slight angle in the line otherwise they would not bite at all. Ended up with 16 keepers. Only had 2 throwbacks. All the keepers were 1+ lb except 3.
Have to go back to work in a few days so it will be a little over a week before I can possibly go again. Hopefully the weather will be right and they will be thinking about spawning and can catch a few shallow. Good luck to everyone fishing between now and then.

Nice catch, I believe I talked with you leaving the spillway Saturday evening. I was in the blue bass tracker loading up leaving. I had taken my son down around 1pm and we fished till about 4pm. He got bored pretty quick, because the bite was slow for us, we ended up with 6 nice fish. He did catch the biggest, so he still had fun even though it was slow.
If you dont have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to find time time to fix it.
Congrats Rick! Good to see you out there and catching! I'm keeping my hopes up for a good day like that. Looks like Ms. Bonnie was enjoying herself too.![]()
Take care and enjoy this weather!
