Default One depth finder in two locations?

Hey gang. It's been a few years since I've posted. Still lurk from time to time. I posted this on the electronics board but didn't get any responses. Hopefully someone here can help me out.

Just recently purchased an Elite 4HDI from Lowrance. Budget won't allow for two units at this time so I want to be able to run this unit at console and at the deck. My plan it to mount the transducer at the transom and run that to the console where I would have a mount installed. I would purchase a second mount for the deck and an extension cable. Am I correct in thinking that I could simply move the unit back and forth while connecting/disconnecting the extension cable?

Hopefully someone can confirm my idea or offer a better alternative. Thanks in advance!

Yes, that will work. The head unit can move anywhere, even to another boat, as long as you have the proper connections on the base mount (transducer, power). How do you plan on splicing the transducer cable to your second base mount, or do you plan on having an additional transducer? Let us know if you need additional help.

Tracker may be on to something. You may want to mount a second transducer on the trolling motor and connect the unit to that transducer when you move it to the front deck. I wouldn't think a second transducer would be too expensive and the "picture" you would be viewing would be almost right under you while you are fishing instead of being at the back of the boat. Just my humble opinion. It may or may not work for you.

On Hummingbird which I have the extenion cable I dont think would make a direct connection without removing the cable from the base mount. Like Pastor said I got A second Transducer for the trolling motor and Base installed up front off E-Bay. I did the swapping for a while untill I bought a new one that was better than the first one I had purchased. It had been put on a pontoon boat for display in a showroom and never been used. They had lost the transducer so I got it at a steal as I was the only bid. Use the Eliete 4 up front , Buy a cheeper unit for the back. Watch for the transducer to be the same model # or they might not interchange

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to look into the second transducer for the trolling motor.

I was looking at using a cable like this:https://www.mercadomagico.com/product-165440.html?gclid=CPqP9KHavbwCFUJo7AodHhkAHQ
This would be cheaper than the additional transducer. Would I have to do some splicing if I used a similar cable?
