The temp should be about 10 degrees higher before the fish are on the bank. Staging takes place at slightly lower. A lot of it is related to the shad moving into warmer water. The shad are deep now to be in their comfort zone. As they move up they spread out to shallow water. Water temp at Claiborne Sat was 44 Degrees

IMO it's a different ball game in the Basin. Hard to find water more than 10' deep. If I can find 14' and I have, I'm dragging a black and Chart tube jig along the bottom.

At what degree water temp does the sacalait start spawning? I fish the basin and hit all my spots hard Saturday and didn't get the first bump. The water was 48* in most places. I then found an area that was 50-51* but still nothing. The water was at a fishable level and falling so I am at a loss for the lock jaw treatment I got.

In that situation what would we expect to see on a fishfinder?

As for spawning fish in south louisiana. Water needs to get near or above 60. You can catch them in wintering areas in colder water but got to get upper 50's for them to think spawn and moving shallow. My 2 cents and remember sacalait never cease to make you question logic

I agree with the water temp getting around 60, however when I see post like Prefers Shiners on Saturday and none of the fish have eggs, makes me wonder.....

Like I have read a bunch on this topic, seat time seems to be the best tactic at being successful....and of course there are always the slow days and non-successful days.

As for none with eggs those had to be all males. Henderson. Fish. I know wouldn't spawn in January. Although I don't fish the area I would thing those fish might spawn some in feb but with a mid month full moon in march tat would be more likely. Caught a mess Saturday at Larto. The females were full, so were the males. First stretch of a week of warm temps the corks go on the poles. You will start seeing the males with bloody beat up tales from fanning the nest.
