    I think it's an accident when one gets caught on a hook and line since like you said they filter feed. The first one I ever saw came up on a trot line I had set in Chickamauga Lake in Tenn back in the early 70's. I didn't even know there was such a fish and there was a big one around 30 lbs. Kind of shocked me when it surfaced. Real neat fish for sure and congrats on the catch sacs and spoony.

    They don't always filter feed, caught one on a minner once that was at least as big as that one....

    I'm betting you would have caught him on a bare hook. The way they move has them prone to snag like that.
