Made a trip again today and found a few. The bite was slow, but we managed to scratch out 16 beautiful slabs and perhaps 5 throwbacks. Most of our fish were caught in the first hour of the day as the tree ducks serenaded us near the railroad tracks. All on shiners, all near the bottom, all at least 12' deep. I also caught an amazingly beautiful off species.... a 42" paddlefish!

Welcome to the board and thanks for the pictures! Nothing wrong with that catch. I think I hooked one of those spoonbill catfish once at Larto but I have never landed one.

The actual name for it is a paddlefish, but most folks call it a spoonbill catfish. They are a protected species except for bowfishermen I believe. You also must release any fish which has over a 30" lower jaw fork length, and this one was over that size. They are a filter feeding river species which was commercially harvested for their roe, which is a highly sought after caviar. I have seen a few showing up in Henderson, but this was my first one, you never know when you wet a line!
