Well my friends I've finally made it back to the keyboard. Seems like fishing has been tough for some of y'all but I see that Fisherman did catch a nice mess. Although many elements came together the last two days to make fishing a success, the one thing that didn't cooperate was the wind. By the time we got to the camp after a 20 mile boat ride through first fog and then a very choppy lake, the wind had gone mostly due East and was howling. Now the canal we were going to fish runs East / West so you can imagine what a 15 to 20 mph wind can do to a small light alum. hull. It wasn't pretty. We were drifting along at nearly 5 mph at times. The water quality was great, nice dark and clean. We had no electronics so I don't know what the temp was. The camp was small but neat thanks to my new friend's effort to make it so. It still needs some more work and I will try to aid in getting it done. Even though the conditions weren't the best we decided to make the best of it. That is until the generator went out right at dark. It ran all day running all the appliances and the extra string of lights we had put outside along the walk. Tal where were you and freebird when we needed you. Well we never did get it running again so it was led lights and a Coleman lantern. I'm sure glad it wasn't hot and there were no bugs. We slept well in spite of. A few thunder storns passed during the night but had pass over by morning. Daylight brought us a weird way to make coffee but we made do as the pot is electric. A quick breakfast and out the door to find that the wind had turned 180 degrees and was now blowing out of the West at the same speeds as yesterday. Someone must have reversed the fan. Now with all this said I not setting y'all to a story of no fish. In fact just the opposite. I would have like to see what we could have caught if the wind had allow us to really fish. The one thing I have to say before I quit is thanks to my new friend for a wonderful 2 days of outdoors. You are the best and look forward to more great days. Now to the fish. Our total count was 20 slabs and 1 bass. I weighted the 20 fish and they came up to 23 pounds and 4 onces. The largest 5 weight in at 9 pounds 1/2 ounce. Those were all females plumb full of eggs, the eggs were large but not quite ready to be laid but it won't be long. The males we caught had not started fanning nest yet as they had no bloody tails. That is about the nicest bunch of slabs that I've ever caught and can only remember only 2 other times where we caught them a little nicer than that. We caught them on shiners and RoadRunners drifting along at top speed. So now for a few pictures. I want to take more but because of the lack of electricity I couldn't recharge my phone and I had to use it's flashlight for a while to get things set up. So here goes.
