truth #1....my father died in 1989 or 1990....that, i feel is something I should know.....google...can't find it....don't know how old he was......he left us in 1970 I think....that was his path...his yellow brick road so to speak.....we followed ours..we all do...we all have a destiny.....any way...I did not know my father that well..we did spend some time together one summer in abbeville....probably a week or so...we fished with a bamboo pole that we cut down together...and we fished together...that was where our paths happened to cross...I remember that time with great joy.....in the same breath I did not know the man....what made him tick.....he did like horse racing ...but that was later in his life.....there was not a real mans presence in my childhood.....myself,my mother...my 2 sisters....we moved around when my parents were married...atlanta...london or somewhere near there....then atlanta again...actually marietta......when my dad left we did what divorced families do and moved in with my grandparents....that's in lafayette......been around ever since.....got hooked on fishing by one of my sisters boyfriends...his parents had a camp on old river.....loved that place....i may have invited myself there a time or 2.......addicted since then.....missed a few years here and there as we all have....but the addiction is still there....we moved from my grandparents house...and after some time renting in the saint street area in lafayette we moved next door to my grandparents house...lived in a mobile home...my grandfather became my dad figure.....he worked 2 jobs plus kept up cattle...chickens.....pastures....barn....my house...his house...i was his helper.....he'd cuss me from daylight till he left to go to work......he always accused me of looking for a place to always plant my a** somewhere...ie ....lazy.....that's how i grew up....i can remember my grandmother would cook lunch for us and whatever she would cook on monday, the leftovers would be transformed into other dishes as the week went on.....went to college....worked offshore for a whopping 10 days....decided on a career after that....a career that did not involve offshore....no disrespect to the folks who do that...matter of fact...my hats off to you...we all need one another in some connected way......went to vet school...my dad died when i was in vet school...it did not have much of an effect on me....the saddest part was when my momma cried....she still loved him deep down i guess....difficult to see that when growing up....no fault anywhere to any parents...including my own....just following our path...finding our destiny.....it's fun to see it unravel or should i say unfold...it feels like unraveling some days.....my wife was with me at his funeral...we were dating then....she was special back then and it was times like those that proved just that.......so the thing about my dad ...is that it is hard for me to get comfortable around men....there were always men in my moms life after my dad left...thats natural......but they would never stay....god knows she can be hard to get along with.......but i would always trust them when they were there and then they were gone...some would come back and leave again...so I guess I gave up after a while and became the person I am today...life is harsh but...again just following the path....am very happy now...may not trust a lot of people....but I'm trying......any way...some of you guys are like parents to me...some are older...some younger...some the same age...but all exhibit stuff that i saw in my dad the summer we FISHED together.....
