    Default Darbonne Yesterday

Bonnie and I made a trip up to Darbonne yesterday. Launched at the spillway. Fished Pine Hill area and caught 3 pretty quick. All 3 were about 7-8 inch fish. Moved up the lake and fished the stumps along the edge of the channel. Not a fish. Moved on up and caught 1 keeper fish and 1 nice bream next to a piling on the Hwy 33 bridge. Caught them all on electric chicken baby shad fishing about 12 ft deep. Waiting on cooler weather. Boat really needed to be run anyway. On the downside though I broke Bonnies jig pole that I bought her for Christmas. She got hung and I stripped line off and was holding the pole about 8 inches below the joint on the butt section and the weight of the reel caused it to break. Guess it had a weak spot. It has only been used twice. Never been dinged and been stored inside.

Good to hear from you Rick! Like you, I can't wait for some cooler weather....even if just to be outside in it! Sounds like Ms. Bonnie is due for an upgrade already. lol Tell her hello for me.

Scott. Got the butt section replaced with no questions asked. It was a clean break. There was no stress on the pole but the weight of the reel. I was holding it about 10 inches below the joint on the butt section when it broke. David at the Honey Hole always does me right. That's why I buy all my fishing stuff there.

Rick, glad to see that you and Bonnie got to go. I know it extra nice when Linda can come with me. Sorry to hear about the jig pole but glad you got it replaced. Maybe you need to look into lighter reels.

Had a homemade pole from Honey hole at one time…wasn't cheap, but very nice pole. It now rests somewhere in the bottom of Bogue Houma canal on the East Pearl.....
    Man I miss that pole.

I came very close Saturday of loosing one of my good poles yesterday. we were fishing a tree top below the spillway, I reeled in the line and put the rods in the boat with the jigs hanging outside. we left the tree top with the trolling motor. A few minutes later I heard something behind me and the line was stretched to the top. I grabbed it as it was headed over the side, the line broke and saved the day. The line can be replaced easy enough , but the pole on the bottom would be hard to swallow. I know you miss it

Why not buy poles that float?

If I hang up in a good top, I'll lay my pole in the water and pick another pole up and keep catchin.
