When it's hot out, I pull crankbaits most of the time. Will drop shiners in deep pockets as well.

How many of you boys use this technique in the summer? If not whats your favorite way to catch some slabs in the La heat?
I normally dont crappie fish too much in the summer but this year Im gonna go a lot more and attempt spider rigging for the first time. Usually Ill just fish a shiner over some deep water brush and stumps and tightline a jig.

I do. Like to fish stump fields 10 to 15 feet deep

Idk. Try em there. You might get right on top of em. If not just keep hunting them. You'll find em. One thing for sure....they have to eat in the summer time too.

i love to spider rig in the summer. the fish move back to the deeper water and spider rigging is the best way to load the boat. i have my ranger set up so that we can spider rig three fishermen. front, back and middle. each with 8 rods, 2 shiners per rod. that's 48 shiners at one time. LOL
the one thing i have learned is that in the dead of winter, the fish are very close to the bottom in the deeper water. but in the summer, they are more suspended. maybe a foot or two off the bottom. but when you find them and the right depth, it's on like a chicken bone.
be sure to let us know how you do when it heats up.
