Man, the water up here is some tore up from all the rain. Verret all the way to Cheramie is quiet and the Corne's got gas. Spillway ain't much better. So I'm gonna break down and make my first trip to Bob's Saturday to try Bayou Black. Rode down once a year ago to see if I could find it but didn't bring the boat. Hate hauling that far but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me. I've been studying the area on Google maps for a year but I don't know exactly how far I have to ride. So, as Gov. McKeithen used to say, "Won't you hep me?" I'll return the favor up on this end once the water gets right.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks Kip. Found Copesaw and Bluebird but can't find Orange Grove.
Hanging a left out of Bob's there seems to be a ton of canals that look promising though.
Paul
Paul, Orange Grove is closer to Houma. You can reach it from Bob's but its a long run. Launch at Cannon's Landing which is on the opposite side of the bayou from Bob's at the head of Minors canal. Once launched you proceed down the bayou a short distance in the only direction you can go, and turn left into Minor's canal. Minors canal will take you to the Intracoastal Canal, 1 3/4 miles. Turn right in the Intracoastal canal and travel about 2 3/4 miles, Orange Grove is on the right. If you look at Google earth and zoom in you will see there is a barge at the mouth of the canal and there are a bunch of markers for pictures. The zooming out a little you will see that the canal complex looks somewhat like a tree. Travel away from the Intracoastal until you find cleaner water. The canals on the right are good. Take the second canal on the left and then the first right and that will take you all the way to Antil canal. Any canals along here can be winners. Good luck.

Paw Paw Gene , I never put in at cannons. Is it always open ? cause i heard sometimes they close it. Also whats that small structure when turning in the Minors canal ? looks like a small bridge.
Kip, it is open probably 90 plus percent of the time. The structure you're talking about is a water control gate. There are 3 modes or conditions of operation for the gate. Mode 1 it is open at all times Mode 2 it is closed but you can open it by pressing the button on the post near the structure. It will then stay open for 3 minutes allow plenty of time for you to pass and then it will close automatically. Mode 3 it is closed and cannot be opened. There is a sign at the launch telling you what mode or condition it's in. There is a self pay envelope station and the large sign is near it. The only time it's closed in condition 3 is when the salt content in the Intracoastal is high. Houma gets some of it's water from the Intercoastal and when the salt content is too high they close the gate and draw water from Bayou Black which is the bayou you launch into. I hope this helps.
At such times you have to launch in Houma at the free launch or a Bob's on Bayou Black.
