I use yoyo's and love them. However, I completely agree that people should be more responsible when using them. They are regulated by each lake and on Darbonne allows you to use 50 and you have to check them every 24 hours. I abide by these rules and have never had fish go to waste on me. I understand why people hate them and it bothers me just as much when I see people abuse them. But there aren't enough law enforcement agents to make people run their yoyo's properly. It's just a matter of personal pride.
My biggest gripe is people think just because they have yoyo's set that it is there area and dont care about other fishermen. This morning at saline, and yesterday evening, I had yoyoers on the bank I was fishing. They totally disregarded the fact that my wife and I were there. They came right on top of us running a 25hp motor pulling up dried up perch off them. They actually pulled in 20 ft in front and behind us.
Bad!!! I have never seen a stretch of yoyos that did not have fish hanging out of the water on them. I wish Louisiana would outlaw them altogether.
I don't like 'em, but I am not jealous of all the folks that have fun with them. Anytime you have the public enjoying freedom, there's going to be some bad apples. One has to accept it or risk taking one's own rights away as well.

we had the same argument here in the south with gill nets, but the fact is that since they have banned the nets the fishing has improved 1000%..with population increases, fishing pressure has increased 1000%..i am all far less government and laws, but a little commonsense goes a long way..again i say if you have a dock then use them, but putting these things on a thousand trees is just bad for everyone
Hate them. I wish they would be banned. I've seen people run them with their big motors in shallow water, ruining spawning fish beds. I've had people run them right down the bank I am fishing. They should at least be illegal from Feb. thru April.
For years I was an avid yo yo fisher but since I learned to jig fish I really hate to see the yo yo's on the lake I personaly think they are detrimental to the fish at their most vunerable time spawning pre and post thousands are taken out of Erling every spring pole fishing would really be a lot better if they were banned but that is a personal opinion and as long as they are legal and are fished as they are supposed to be fished I have no problem with them.

Personally, I'd love to see yo yos banned, limit reduced to 25 per person with a 10" minimum length, within 2 years fishing would be fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
