Hi Wayne and welcome to the forum. The canals around lake long used to have a lot o crappie in them but I haven't tried there in years. Also the Hollywood Canal on the other side of the company canal is a good spot for crappie and small bass. I do most of my fishing on the west side of Houma off the Intracoastal near Orange Grove, Antil Canal and 70 mile canal. This time off year it's a little harder to find them than in the spring but with the cooling waters they should get more active. How are you fishing and what baits are you using. Blue and white tube jigs are best followed by black and chartreuse. Green also produces well in the summer time. Since you're fishing the Lake Long area I assume you're from around Bourg.

Im from clinton la moved here with my wife. I been trying to find a place to fish crappie an I dont know the water. Could you tell me how to get to the places you are talking about. Is it closer to get to orange grove from cannos landing or by the old fire station. I been going out at night with the lights an have had no luck.

Hi Wayne and welcome to the forum as well. Gene knows the area where you are at, so he knows. I understand your frustration on the jigs, so put the shiners to them - give them what they eat daily

Wayne, it's closer to leave from Cannon's. I wouldn't mind sitting down with you one afternoon and go over some maps to get you started. The fishing here is probably much different than further north. Here the lakes and canals are shallow, about 7 foot, so your tactics will have to change. I'd be glad to show you a few places.

The only night fishing I've done is in salt water for speckled trout. We fish for them around oilfield platforms with flares or lights. When is a good time to call. I'll be signing off after this post but I can call at what time is better for you as I'm retired.
