I probably didn't state my above exactly right....we had a bunch (probably over half that were between 11 and 13 ounces as I only weighed a couple because so many looked like they were identical and many others were around 7 to 8 ounces....not a single 1 over a pound though. I've never came close to this many big gills before and have caught a bunch in my years of fishing KY lake and Reelfoot.

They were weighed on an X-tools digital scale and I can't say if it is perfectly accurate or not? You are probably right....maybe they all weighed half that and the scale is wrong, but all I know is that the gills were MUCH larger than average and we had 2 coolers w/ gills and that was all I wanted to lift (not saying too much as I'm a little guy).

I used to not post sizes, but I would then get pm's asking me about average sizes and what to expect at KY Lake so I went and bought the scale several on this site recommended. Guess I'll just refrain from posting anymore sizes. I'm sure you are correct that there isn't 180 lbs of gills in the pic, but it is the largest average size I've ever caught and the gills are without a doubt getting bigger on KY.

Not trying to bash you or your post.I have fished KY Lake for bluegill and redear several times and if you are catching 12oz average then I would make a trip this weekend with my son.12 oz bluegill are something to get excited about but 8 ozers don't do much for me.

I like the fact that you post pics and numbers! That's what I want to see!
Here is a 5 pound 11ounce, 22 inch Largemouth that I caught yesterday! She was done spawning so she would have been heavier a week ago! She was released and swam away nicely!

Nice fish! That is what I'm ready to get after when they get out on the ledges, which should be really soon!

And to think I was thinking about taking my boys to the Foot this weekend. I could drive to KY lake and maybe catch some good gills there instead. Much easier drive and closer.

    Nice catch Casey.

    Smile Ky fish

Casey's at it again rapin the fisheries. Looks like one whale of a mess. Good lookin fish, family and a heck of a dog. Looks like one that's a ball of fire. The next time I'm down there I'll be parked at the ramp looking to follow a red Triton. Just kidding. As a buddy used to say keep what you can use and freeze the rest. Many years ago a cousin used to fish Barkley lake for bluegill and he said he would place it against reelfoot any day of the week. They would camp and fish it for days on end.
