Smile Smithland Pool Crappie - Pics

Went to Smithland Pool today. The water temp was 64 degrees and muddy. The crappie are spawning on the bank. Most of the fish were caught 1-2 ft deep on minnows. Lots of fun catching them on the bank! This may not go on much longer, the water is raising about a foot each day.

    Smithland. :D

It's on the river NE of Paducah above Smithland dam.

You catch those out of Bayou, Huck? I haven't fished up there in years.

Quacker, I was fishing on the Illinois side of the river. There is no doubt that the fish in Bayou have also been spawning on the bank. I have a friend who fishes Bayou every spring and he catches a lot of crappie.
The bad news is the river is on a major rise. The water is getting out of its banks and the fishing is going to get real tough. By the time the water gets back to normal the crappie spawn will probably be over.

I'm hoping it will bring a lot of slabs up in the creeks up here. High water usually brings them into the shallow creeks in our area.
