Ky. Lake 3/27-3/29

They are predicting rain and a cold front moving in this weekend. Anybody have any thoughts on how the fish will react to this if it happens? I was planning on coming down but wondering if I should hold off. I am not a regular like some of you who know the lake better than myself.

Looking at the forecast Sat. may be pretty good if the cold front will hold off till the late afternoon. The fish will still bite...just back out to brushpiles in 10' to 14' and fish slow down in the thick stuff if it gets cold.

I have been going to Kentucky Lake for 6 years straight, same week each year regardless of the weather, and have fished in 40 degrees to 69 degrees temps, with flooded or low water levels in all kinds of water temps. Yeah, the front might make things alittle tough, but it also keeps the fair weather fisherman at bay, making the fishing pressure decrease enough to level off the decrease in the fishes motivation to bite. Now, I almost prefer rain, and fronts to have the lake to myself as much as possible. If it's windy, maybe try crankbaits drifting into the wind, on flats in bays off the main lake (wind socks could be a great investment). If its sunny, you may want to try deep docks (17 fow), vertically jiggin YUM beaver tails. The big females, sometimes spawn in 15 to 18 fow, and stage in 25 fow+, so sometimes the front will bunch up the males that may have went shallow with the warm spell, with those females, so you can get some 16-17-18"ers, that you may not had a chance at because of the tendency of focusing on the shallows where the males are biting more aggressively. It maybe a good idea to focus not just on underwater brush piles, but points and secondary creek channels, as well. I don't use live bait if at all possible, but if the temps drop more than 30 degrees, sometimes you have to go outside the box, and buy a couple dozen and spider rig and cover as much water as you can, because one thing is for sure, they will be biting somewhere, just not everywhere when the weather is perfect. Thanks for the input HT. Last year was my first year and I ended going 4 times with one in July for shellcrackers and we tore them up, they are definitaly underfished. We are coming this weekend Thurs thru Sunday. Then I am coming back next Saturday for 7 days. I can't wait!!

In Indiana, we shoot docks 80% of the time spring, winter and fall, and it never fails...when I head down to KY Lake, most folks are drifting and pulling out away from the docks, and we have the docks to ourselves almost always. Heck, I almost thought is was against the law to shoot docks down there, but one thing is for sure, there are a lot of docks that hold limits on a given day... and if you know which ones to look for on that given day, that pattern is hard to beat. Don't get me wrong, I will pull cranks, vertical jig, submerged brush, cast buck brush and falling timber, spider rig, but the docks if fished correctly are money.
