Thread: Ky. Lake 3/27-3/29

You'll be covering a lot of water fishing a 17fow dock pattern on KY Lake......

As of right now, the wind forecast is brutal for this weekend.

In Indiana, we shoot docks 80% of the time spring, winter and fall, and it never fails...when I head down to KY Lake, most folks are drifting and pulling out away from the docks, and we have the docks to ourselves almost always. Heck, I almost thought is was against the law to shoot docks down there, but one thing is for sure, there are a lot of docks that hold limits on a given day... and if you know which ones to look for on that given day, that pattern is hard to beat. Don't get me wrong, I will pull cranks, vertical jig, submerged brush, cast buck brush and falling timber, spider rig, but the docks if fished correctly are money.

Possibly, but there are less than a handful of docks on all of KY Lake that sit in 17fow.

Most of the docks on KY Lake now also have no structure that lend themselves to classic dock shooting. As storms tear the old docks up, they are replaced with units that are floating on plastic float perimeters and attached at the bank.

I agree, that the new floating docks don't hold half as many crappie as the older docks that have rusty old poles running to the bottom, but if you throw a pontoon boat in the mix or something to that nature, it will still hold good fish, and in regard to 17 fow docks, I do frequent a few banks near the Tennesse line that have the right set up, and I don't have to fish 17 fow, but they are good to target after a front, but there are alot of docks in 15, 10, 5, etc., and I don't discriminate . I also have some marinas I like to target too, that hold alot of fish, sometimes, I can get some really nice crappies at night under the light of the marinas, and usually, I never see another boat during those night excursions, and of course, if you have a portable Vexilar you just walk down the dock until you mark a fish and drop a jig down and see if it's a taker (if you have premission to walk on the marina dock).

The wind on Kentucky is the worst I have ever endured. By far, the "SCARIEST" lake I have ever been on!!! That could be the game changer for this weekend.

We do that just for the tourists.

Once they all leave, we turn it off and it's smooth as glass. :D

Was crossing the main lake to my place at Johnathan creek after running jugs one night when a storm came out of the south. In minutes waves were coming over the top rail. I had my Bassett hound with me and he crawled under the console and was howling. I saw the storm coming but it was too fast. Now I keep a weather scanner with me. I thought I was a goner. Rosco was a little skeptical about going out at night with me for a while. He's fine now.

I too will be Going to Ky. Lake this next week. at least the water levels are more stable! I am hoping to beat High Tides 3.8 Lb crappie from last year. The fish is still swimming out in cypress somewhere. I am hoping to make the run to Big Sandy on one of the weekdays.
