TYPICALLY, for me the best fishing for crappie has been from the 2nd week of April till about the 3rd week of April. But the last couple years has been anything but typical. But usually anywhere from the 3rd week of March thru the 3rd week of April should put you on some prespawn or spawning crappie. First of May you should see some gills starting to get ready to bed as well as some shell crackers. But no matter what it beats the he** out of working.
Crappie spawning and morels popping up at the same time. What was God thinking when he made that schedule. It's pure torture every spring deciding which to do.

... all depends on the weather between now & then

Look this over : KY: Kentucky Dept Fish and Wildlife - ... if nothing else, it will give you some insights on the Crappie's reactions to the changing weather patterns/temps and water levels. Now ... this study was done in 2004, so take that into consideration, but it should hold pretty true.

If that trips your trigger, then you'll want to read ALL of this - Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Kentucky Lake - Crappie Movement Study - and check out the maps that go with it. Even if you don't fish the same creeks shown ... apply it to the creeks you do
