Thread: New Crappie Fisherman, Need Your Advice

Welcome to the board-----Check out the 2009 Fishing Forecast for lakes in your area. Taylorsville may be the closest big lake to you, but would also try Craig's Creek off of the Ohio River. Also look on the Indiana site for some of their lakes. Cost you another licence but they also have some good lakes. Also check the tread about water temp. Sometimes it's all about the temperature of the water as to where they will be. Stay in touch with this board. Some very good knowledge on here.

First off; welcome to the board.

My advice would be... Stop!!! Stop now while you still can. You're not addicted yet, (you are showing signs by being on here) so there's still hope for you. For may of us it's already too late! The thump bug will get you and you'll find yourself consumed at times by thoughts of fish being dragged over the side of the boat. They haven't got a CA with a 12 step program for us, so most of us have just give up hope of ever being cured. I stopped smoking 16 years ago but I can't get this monkey off my back! When it comes to crappie fish'n... The fish arn't the only thing that gets "hooked!" Hello, I'm Wiskers and I'm a Crappie addict! I'm soo ashamed! :o

All kidding aside. Read everything you can get your hands on about the fish. Watch every video you can. Read the posts in the "thing we don't wanta loose" board. Study your water. Make notes on weather conditions, baits, water temps, etc... after a trip. Watch others and ask questions. Use this website to the max! Keep on the move. Don't be afraid to try new things.

Welcome to Crappie.com and especially to the KY. board. The question that comes to my mind is where will you be fishing because that dictates what style you will be trying. I have fished many places in this great state of KY. and the most important aspect is finding where the structure is. Two important pieces of equipment are my GPS and depth finder.I spent many years lining up sunken brush by triangulating structure on the bank. The GPS changed my fishing life alltogether. I use a handheld Garmin 72 ($100) and make paper maps.I have accumalated over 5,000 waypoints. The depth finder is important to find new stuff in the water. I have spent days riding around in one bay and marking brush or stake beds. Crappiepappy is right on about location,location,location.By the way where are you from? Take care!!
