Default Sunken Barge or barges at Moss Creek?

Wiskers or anybody else have more details? I've heard it/they had already snagged a couple of lower units.

Cool Don't know about the lower units

Yep there were several in that area. I believe they've gotten them all up except for 1 more at Vulcan and the 1 in moss creek. I think they're leaving it for last to try and get the mess cleaned up around Vulcan first.

There were wreck buoys on that barge the other day when I came by. Everyone should give them a wide berth. A barge is 200' long by 35' wide by about 15' high if you count the coaming on the deck. It was a coal load so the load will probably extend another couple of feet above that.

Darn shame it's where it's at. There was a fine brush pile right in there. Bet that barge is setting right on top of it.

The barge belongs to Canal Barge Line. They are located in the New Orleans La. area. They sunk 3 I believe, right there at Star Lime Works light during the big wind storm. I talked to the pilot of the boat that had the barges and he said the lake looked like the Gulf during the storm. Wind swells sunk the barges.

Canal is still responsible for the barge until it is raised. If anyone has gotten into the barge and incured damage. I believe. Even though the barge is marked they may still have a claim for damages. I would contact the local USCG office to see what can be done. Paducah # is 270-442-1621.

Thanks for the info, Terry. Did they take water over the side while they were floating or did the wind drive them into shallow water so they tilted and took water? Sure seems like it could be heck to deal with a hard cross wind with the length of a tow.

Maybe we could file a claim for brushpile damage and make them provide a barge-load of brush to be dumped where we see fit.

My understanding was swells over the side. Cargo boxs filled up. And 1600 tons of brush would be a heck of a brush pile. :D

Wiskers, Where is vulcan? Also Dave stewart mentioned a Houseboat in his fishing report just east of Ky. Dam Marina entrance. As I read it, it happened after Ike winds (but I am not sure) Do you have any info on that and what might have happened. I am still fishing at the Dam until Crappie get a little better. May go this weekend if all is OK down that way.

Good to hear from ya ol'buddy. Hope you're do'n well. Vulcan is that rock quarry right above Ky. Lock. As far as the house boat. Man it's funny you should ask. I was coming down the Cumberland the other day and met a salvage boat with that boat in tow. It wasn't a house boat. It was a BIG cabin cruiser. Man was it messed up. They had just raised it. I don't know how it sunk but if he got out there in that lake the day of the wind storm and didn't know what he was do'n that ain't good. Conditions like that you gotta toss out the anchor and let her turn into the wind.

I think the guy said they wer taking it to Buzzard Rock or Katawaa Marina. I try to PM ya with my # and sometime when you're gonna be down this way we'll get together. I have a lot of good spots marked on this north end and I'll hook ya up with some waypoints. This fall and winter I'm gonna try to explore Eddy Creek and get to know it better.

Wiskers, PM sent. Thanks for the info on the boat sinking. I have been trying to find out about that for a while. I am going to try to get to Hillman if I can. I used to fish Pisgah Bay a lot. That has been years ago, along with the rock quarry and Pisgah, we have pulled several fish out of there.

    Question Hey Wiskers/EddyCreekBandit ....

speaking of the "rock quarry" and Pisgah Bay .... are they right side by side ?? I'm thinking that, last time I was on KY Lake, we launched from the campground and fished around a little strip of land (to our right, as we approached the main lake) and into the quarry. The lake was flooded then, and we actually launched the boat on the road TO the ramp. We even fished, and caught a fish, around the concrete picnic tables of the campground. Caught some along the walls of the quarry, too. But, our biggest production spot was the mouth of that bay. We were fishing back in the campground, and noticed a couple of anglers sitting out at the mouth, obviously Bass fishing. They seemed to be keying on one very small spot, but they didn't seem to have any luck, and left. As we worked our way towards the mouth, my curiosity got the better of me and I eased over to where they'd been throwing to. The depth finder started lighting up, showing a rock pile with brush (at least, that was my interpretation, at the time :p ) Before we left that spot, and worked our way on over to the quarry ... we put several Slabs in the boat, three large Sauger, and caught/released a couple of really nice Smallmouth .... the Bass guys were throwing Bass jigs, but we were using minnows.
I'm thinking that we were in Pisgah Bay, but I could be wrong ... it's been quite a few years ago. Just wondering if I remembered correctly, and also wondering if either of you have knowledge of or ever fished that spot Was I reading my DF correctly ... is it a rockpile ?? I can't really remember how deep it was, but I'm thinking around 15' deep ... taking into consideration that the lake was flooded then, of course. Anyway ... if the lake is ever flooded during the mid April period, and you're in the area .... it might be a spot to look for, and give a try.

    ... cp

    Cool Pretty Good Memory

Yes the "Quarry" and Pisgah are side by side. Out toward the mouth of Pisgah is a little island that has a lot of brush on it. The point between the quarry and the bay has a lot of big submerged bolders and som brush scattered around it. If you go on out a couple of hundred feet there's and old road bed that comes up with good drops on both sides. It also has some brush on it.
