Default KY Lake This Next Weekend

I am finally getting out. Boat issues and four kids have effected my fishing but I am heading to the lake Thursday night and will be out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I am heading to Blood River and praying there will be a few fish left. The weather looks ok with a chance of rain on Friday and Sunday with some wind but no major blows coming in. I was going to head to the big flat on Blood River just around the major bend. Anyone have any suggestions as to where they will be. Usually I fish a lot earlier and am kind of at a guess where to find them. I was loading the boat at Irvin Cobbs Marina asll three days.

    Jigboy,
We have had very good luck on Blood River directly across from the ramp at Irvin Cobb. We put in there and shoot straight across and work our way up to the first main point of Blood. Depending on which way the wind is blowing. If you are coming from the main lake start right where blood river forks to the left and right (towards Irvin Cobb). This has a chunk rock bank and is a perennial spawning area. Casting green curly tails on an 1/8th ounce jig head usually pulls alot of fish. We usually drift rosey red minnows about 2 feet deep under a float behind the boat as we cast to the banks also.Try to stay in the 8-10ft water and cast as close to the shore as possible. This always seems to work for us when the water is between 60-65 degrees. Good luck hope this helps, we will be there those dates doing exactly that. First and last hour of the day they really turn on, during midday we back out to the first drop off. Chris

Good luck with that spot. The water has been hitting 65+ during the day and the fish have not been there much this year. Trust me, I've tried it several times (along with a never ending conga line of other people). :D

The fish really got on with business in a hurry when the temps took the big jump up.

Your right on about the conga line, it does get a little crowded sometimes.

Here is a photo of that famous crappie producing bank Chris was talking about.

I have seen the spot many times and will be loading my boat there on Friday morning at around 5:30am. Right now with the cold front in here I am guessing they have pulled back out again so I am going to start around the corner from there on that large flat. The water is around 10' in most places but I am just guessing they will be holding there until it warms back up Thursday and Friday. Any thought?

You guys aren't going to believe this one. I never made it to the lake. I got to within one mile of the Lake Barkley State Park when some kids was racing another car and t-boned my boat and trailor. He hit us at over 60 miles an hour. That close but that far away. No one was hurt and thank God he didn't slam into my trucj or I would have been dead.

My trailor is pretty much totaled. The axil is toast and the guides got torn away from the frame. The fender is also torn to pieces. We got hit so hard the hitch got bent down about 30 degrees and it even damaged the bumper. One chain got broken off it swung the trailor around so much.

Thats the bad news. The good news is that visibly we see no damage to the motor or boat. It is aluminum boat and I won't release anyone until the boat is in the water and I know for sure all the welds are still good. I also want the motor ran and looked over. The only thing I can guess is that the obat is light and he hit us so hard it imediately knocked the boat around probably 10 feet causing no damage to the boat itself. It was laying over on the trailor and both had to be loaded on a flatbed trailor which is coming back to Louisville tomorrow. The final good news is the kid did have insurance and they seem to be working with me OK so far. I should have a new trailor and everything going again in time for my annual smallmouth trip to Lake Erie in July.

Jigboy, sure hate to hear of your misfortune. I worry a lot about the same thing happening to me with my rig and wonder what I'd do if someone hit me that didn't have insurance. Hopefully, I will never have to find out. You just never know when something like that can happen, and I'm sure it was fast.

Good luck on getting back on the water for your smallmouth trip.

Do you have your own insurance on your boat? It's cheap.

That stinks, but at least no one got hurt or killed. Kids aren't to bright sometimes.
