    Default Herrington Lake

Did anyone try Herrington Lake this past weekend? I wanted to go today, but had a few things to do after a week of fiishing KY Lake. I am planning on going this coming weekend. If anyone goes during the week, be sure to let us know how you did. I usually fish around Gwinn Island and have had pretty good luck in Spears Creek fishing around the trees with minnows and jigs. Most people I know usually move from tree to tree if they don't get a fish within 5-10 minutes. I am usually more patient; I might stay in one place for 45 minutes to 1 hour before I start moving around. I have been told that I stay in one place way too long, but it works for me and I usually bring home supper.

My wife and I fished Fri. and Sat. and brought home 13 crappie, 3 white bass, and 2 nice catfish. We fished the creek across from Bryants and moved slowly down the banks dipping minnows around brush and timber. We might go back tomorrow and see if the crappie are on.

That's a good day for sure. What were the water conditions(color, temp, trash, etc)? Thanks

Water was stained in main lake and went to clear up into the creek. Water temperature on the depth finder was 59 degrees in mornings to 64 during afternoons. Trash was heavy Fri. but not as bad Sat. where we were. We are heading there now, putting in at Bryants and fish today. Will be in Basstracker CrappiePro 17 w/60hp Merc if you are out there today or tomorrow stop by and we'll compare info.

Just got done cleaning fish from todays Herrington excursion. 21 keepers and 3 cats. Surface temp went from 64 at 10am to 73 at 4pm. They ranged from being caught at the bank to 8ft with most in 2-3ft water. Clarity very clear in Creek across from Bryants and a good color on main lake. Still plenty of trash floating in sections. Reports are that white bass are hot, saw plenty of boats trolling today or trying with the debris. We had to work hard to get our minnows to the bank, caught our best ones by slipping up through the trees and brush and gently placing our minnows in the thick stuff right near the waters edge. Lots of hangups and frustration but worth it in the end. Bite was best early and late, at least the way we were fishing. We're going back tomorrow, weather permitting. For the first time this week we caught females 3-1 instead of the other way around.

Good report and good pictures. I may try Herrington some day. My sister owns some property on Herrington. I grew up in Harrodsburg.

    Fred in Ky,

OUCH! Today, for us, it was the dead sea. We could not figure it out, we saw what the depthfinders were showing and it appeared to us that the fish moved off the banks into mid to bottom depths. We ended up with 5 crappie and 1 white bass which we caught this afternoon right before pulling out. If anyone else fished Herrington today, how did you do?
