    Default 12th-19th

I have been coming down to Kentucky Lake for twelve years now and I am at a loss of words for this one. A major cold front this weekend and extremely high water... Ouch... Any advice would be really appreciated? Or possibly good news... I am unable to reschedule the trip

    Smile Welcome

    Welcome jasonb.,
I do not have any current info on Ky. lake fishing, but you should soon see some posts from others who do. All I can do is tell you about my trip there last October to maybe prepare you mentally. Last year Ky. Lake was in a major drought. My wife and I decided we wanted to try a fall trip to Ky. Lake for the first time. We had been on several spring trips and were not all that thrilled with the mass of boats everywhere you looked, so we wanted to try the fall when traffic would be down. We took a week off and rented a nice cabin on the lake and went. Of course we had to do this all in advance due to work and we could not change our plans. The day we left home to head to Ky. lake it began to rain. It ended up raining and storming every day of our week there. The lake came up 2 feet and conditions were terrible on the lake as far as wave action for 3 of those days. So, how did we handle this. We just fished harder than ever and tried everything we knew to try. When the waves got too crazy we headed in to the opposite coves and fished hard. We laughed at ourselves in the driving rain, we cussed when the wind was too much, and we prayed when the waves seemed likely to swamp our boat. In short, we fought the good fight and struggled to catch a few fish, but came away with an experience we would never forget. We managed to make something good out of lousy conditions because it is not the amount of fish you catch, but how you go about doing it, and the attitude you take with you, and the attitude you come away with after a struggle. So in closing, go with a determination to do your best, yet know that if fishing is crappie, you have the power to make it a memorable and fun one, no matter the conditions.

One other piece of advice, if you can afford it, hire a guide the first day.

    Default Bad conditions, good time

    Minner,
I like your attitude!! Too many people expect everything to be just great all the time and when "life" doesn't meet their expectations, they whine and cry.

Best to look at it like you did and say you had a very memorable experience, one you probably couldn't buy anywhere. And you and the wife sounded like you were bonding with one another against the elements and that means more than catching two limits of fish every day.

I had a wheel bearing fail last Sunday while headed for a lake to go fishing and rather than bemoan my fate, I looked at the bright side....it could have happened this Saturday when I will be driving to Ky Lake!!

There's always a silver lining to every black cloud if you just keep a positive attitude toward life.

If you're healthy, fed, and sheltered in the winter, life can't be too bad.

We stayed at the Shawnee Bay resort the end of March. Wind, rain, lightning. You name it, we had it. Wind chills down to 29 degrees.

We were watching the weather prior to the trip and my response to it remained the same. We've been down there 4 times before and each time was different, yet great.

This time, the tradition stayed the same. Different, yet great. Look at my posts to find how the fishing went.

We did stop at the Marshall County Humane Society. Just to look. We laid our eyes on a black lab/mountain cur mix. Nice looking pup. He's 4 months old.

We came home and gave it serious thought. Last Saturday, we did a 15.5 hour, round-trip road-trip and came back home with "Wrigley":

You never know how your trip will go. Barring any disasters, I'm sure it'll go great. Be sure to stop at Patti's for pork chops.

I have never walked into a humane society and came out empty handed. ha ha! What a beautiful dog. I have never had a bad time at Shawnee Bay regardless of the fishing... John takes great care of the place... And is an unbelievable host.. I actually started going there with my Dad when I was young and now I am almost 30 and we are still going and I hope to do the same with my kids. Even if the fish don't bite there is always Patti's and their sweet 2 inch pork chops
