    Teacher,

We're wanting to go somewhere tomorrow but have no idea where to find clean water...Dale Hollow, Green River Lake or ??? We're near Cumberland but I'd imagine it's muddy all over. Sounds like you found some good water.

Moonshine Steel ... Cumberland is muddy clear to the dam, and up about 8ft over the depth limit for dam repair.
Dale is "mostly" clear on the main lake/main creek arms ... but, dingy to dirty in the creek ends.
(that's the report I got Friday, from the guys at Backwaters Outfitters in Lexington).

Most all the other lakes I got info on, were worse off than that. Thankfully, it is still a wee bit early in the season ... so the lakes still have a chance to settle down before the water temps/weather starts them on their run to the banks.

Keep us informed as to the conditions & results, wherever you end up going.

We ended up running north of us a few miles to a new lake for me...Cedar Creek just outside Stanford. I guess it's mainly being managed as a trophy bass lake with a 20" minimum length on LM with 1 allowed to be taken. Crappie has no minimum length as of this month...used to be 9". Apparently lots of crappie...we caught 20 small and didn't get in the water till about 2 pm as the temp was dropping considerably from a noon time high of 50. Water temp was 47 on the surface and all we caught was 2 to 3' deep.

Here's a sow that sucked down a minnow in a cedar top...ultralight and 6lb test on a #4 aberdeen. Not what we were after but sometimes you gotta put up with trash fish. She was 21 inches long and after a pic, we eased her back in the water. Water was stained with a chop from the 10 to 20 blowing.

Cumberland at Pitman Creek in Burnside looked good which surprised me when we drove across. I figured it'd be muddy for a couple weeks after the rain we got.

    Thumbs up Yep ...

that's Cedar Creek Lake, alright :D ... big Bass, and stunted Crappie.

That's why they took the minimum size limit off the Crappie (not that a lot of folks were even following the size limit rules, anyway  ). They want to see if thinning out the herd will create more/better opportunities for the Crappie to get bigger.
I plan on helping that along :p ... by removing a few dozen, myself, and frying them up that night (or the following day). At one hours drive from home ... it's still the cheapest fishing trip I can take, and not have a boat, and still expect to catch a few

There are bigger Crappie in CCL ... they're just few and far between.

And, just for the record ... I'm proud of you for practicing C&R on that Bass, and I'm sure the guys that fish it, for Bass, are also thankful. The less negativity we have, between Crappie & Bass anglers, the better for both !!
