Hello, I am new to the area, because I am military I move around a lot. Just moved here from Alaska. Missed crappie fishing so much went out bought a boat and got no where to go??? Anyone ever fished the Franklin city lake. Looks like someone went out and put out some stack beds though out the lake? I am looking for something close byu so I can get wet this spring.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks ahead. If you want to go split some gas let me know... You boat or mine.

    Exclamation Shawn ....

Looks like you are about 45-60 minutes from Barren River Lake (KY) and about 45mins from Old Hickory Lake (TN) ... as far as larger bodies of water are concerned.
Can't help you much on either lake, as far as fishing info. But, here's a site you might want to keep in your "favorites" : http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/wc/reports/lkreport.html

You will notice, when you open it up, that Barren is not at normal Winter pool :D due to the rains. (and neither are many of the other lakes in that region ) Click on the underlined number in the "Todays Pool Feet" column, and it will take you to a chart that shows the last years progression of rainfall, lake elevation (normal & actual depth readings), and the outflow rate. (check the date on the chart to make sure it's updating daily)

BadBrad may be able to give you some info on Barren --- here's the KDFWR info on it : http://kdfwr.state.ky.us/WaterBodyDe...&atype=*&CID=*

Other than those two large lakes .... Lake Malone is just a little over an hours drive NW of you. Sorry, can't help you there, either ... but I remember someone talking about fishing it, here on the board ... so maybe they'll come forward and give you the skinny on it. Here's all I know : http://kdfwr.state.ky.us/WaterBodyDe...&atype=*&CID=*

Welcome to Kentucky, and welcome to Crappie.com !!

    Hi and welcome to Ky.
We have some great fishin in this part of the state.
A lot of folks from Franklin come over to Lake Malone to fish. Malone is an 850 acre state owned laked. Very productive and nice scenery. I live about 7 miles from the lake and have fished it for about 26 years. I normally fished Ky and Barkley but with price of gas I am planning on fishing Malone alot this year! I am retired and would like to take you fishin sometime if you would like to go. I don't fish much on weekends. {family time}. The crappie fishing in the lake seems to go in cycles and from what I have seen/I think this year may be good for crappie. Bass population is one of the best in the state. Good bluegill but not huge. Shellcracker is fair. Note: the big crackers and gills are in the lake, I might just not know how to catch em but if you want to try and figurer em out then I am ready to try. Channel Cats excellant. I have a friend in Franklin that can give you the info on the Franklin city lake. I am on the "board of directors" (coffee drinkers, fisherman, hunters, and other liars) at the Lake Malone Country Store 657-2278 {spam}. Hey they might give me a free Mt Dew! You can PM me for my cell number.

Pap's right about Barren being high right now from the rains. It was high and muddy last time I saw it and more rain forecast for Sunday.

Can't help you much with the lake their in Franklin, I have heard of some nice bass being caught there. The fisheries guys probably put out the stake beds.

Barren is fairly close to you...there is some good crappie fishing in it from time to time. A lot depends on the spring and how much water fluctuation you get from the spring rains. If it's not extreme (one way or the other) than the fishing should be good.

Late April, through June the Hybrid fishing on Barren is excellent. You can sometimes catch them in the jumps and throw topwaters at em. If you hook up with one, you better hold on to your rod. Fish over 10lbs are common. You can also do some good trolling for them through the hot summer months.

Welcome to the area and congratulations on your new arrival.

    Hello Danny,
The campground is a nice place to stay. I take my son down there camping some even though we just live a hop, skip and jump from the lake. I bet your dad was :D :D :D about the big cracker! Waynes is still up for sale and yes the Country Store is at the entrance to the campground. {spam} another Mt. Dew! Holler at me next time you and your buddies come down to fish.

Bring the Dog! I have 5 dogs myself. 2 Golden Retrievers, 2 Fiest, and 1 Mountain Cur. We'll leave mine at home since your dog is a guest.
