Looks like you are about 45-60 minutes from Barren River Lake (KY) and about 45mins from Old Hickory Lake (TN) ... as far as larger bodies of water are concerned.
Can't help you much on either lake, as far as fishing info. But, here's a site you might want to keep in your "favorites" : http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/wc/reports/lkreport.html
You will notice, when you open it up, that Barren is not at normal Winter pool :D due to the rains. (and neither are many of the other lakes in that region) Click on the underlined number in the "Todays Pool Feet" column, and it will take you to a chart that shows the last years progression of rainfall, lake elevation (normal & actual depth readings), and the outflow rate. (check the date on the chart to make sure it's updating daily)
BadBrad may be able to give you some info on Barren --- here's the KDFWR info on it : http://kdfwr.state.ky.us/WaterBodyDe...&atype=*&CID=*
Other than those two large lakes .... Lake Malone is just a little over an hours drive NW of you. Sorry, can't help you there, either ... but I remember someone talking about fishing it, here on the board ... so maybe they'll come forward and give you the skinny on it. Here's all I know : http://kdfwr.state.ky.us/WaterBodyDe...&atype=*&CID=*
Welcome to Kentucky, and welcome to Crappie.com !!
