Sounds good He will like it as long as he can swim before or after... Black Lab

So I was looking at the website for Lake Malone, How are the campgrounds there? Is there any right on the water? Looking at staying there with my wife this spring and fish during the mornings and nights... I would rather not have to pull the boat out every time.

No sites on the water. You must take out everyday. Do not leave boat at State Dock overnight. No park ranger. Let me know when your coming and I will get you a site# for a good site. Boat ramp is about 1/2 mile from campground.

The scenery is the best on Malone. The fish can be quite elusive sometimes but we always come home with a good mess. I can't wait for my next trip down there.

The franklin city lake that you mentioned does have some crappie in it. There are not many of much size however. This is getting better and I thinbk that it has a lot to do with them stocking muskie in it. The muskies feed on the small crappie and bluegill that were straining the food base. As you have already noticed there is a lot of cover in the creek. (by the way that is what we call it, "the creek.")

It gets a fair amount of pressure from people fishing for bass, but I don't think that many people fish just for crappie in it the way that I do. As the weather continues to warm the fish will move farther up the creek where it changes from being like a lake to being more like a river. It is a great little piece of water to have because it si so close and convenient to go and wet a line on an afternoon and not have to fool with driving to barren or malone and waste time that you could be fishing. With that being said however you will catch more and bigger fish at either of those two places than you will at the creek.

smashdn, welcome to crappie.com from BG KY. Are you talking about the creek off of 100 by the dam? I pass there all the time and wondered about the fishing there. Any restrictions on putting in there like motor limits or anything? Thanks in advance for any info. pm me if you like.

smashdn, Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the info, my wife and I just moved here and I have been wondering about that place. I see people on it, but never ask anyone. I also, have seen a few stake beds and that is what made me wonder about the crappie fishing.

MAybe we can drop a line one night let me know.
