It would be good to know what lake you're fishing the tourney on ... and whether you'll be a one man team - part of a two man team (partner/yourself) - or if you'll be a non-boater or boater and paired with a stranger.

Depending on the current conditions of the lake, you should be OK with light Bass equipment. Alot of Crappie fishing methods are very similar to Bass fishing ... just on a lighter/downsized scale. Finding out "where" the fish should be, on that lake & at that time & under it's current conditions, will dictate what methods, cover, depth, and baits should work best.
Flatline & spider-rig trolling seem to be the more popular methods used in tourneys, but that depends alot on what lake you fish and where the fish are at the time you're there.
